100,000 connections bring faster broadband to Scotland
Milestone for £600+ million R100 programme.
More than 100,000 faster broadband connections have now been delivered to homes and businesses across Scotland through the Scottish Government’s £600+ million Reaching 100% (R100) programme, including the Scottish Broadband Voucher Scheme (SBVS).
The milestone marks significant progress in bringing faster and more reliable broadband to communities across the country, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach areas.
Independent evaluation highlights the positive impact of the R100 programme. Around three quarters of businesses report increased productivity and stronger performance, while nearly two thirds of households say they feel more connected to friends, family and the wider world. Almost half report improvements in their wellbeing.
From community hubs and local charities to hospitality and high street businesses, improved connectivity is helping organisations across Scotland operate more efficiently and reach new customers. The programme is helping rural businesses compete globally and seize new opportunities, supporting activity in emerging industries like Shetland’s space sector and key sectors including tourism.
R100 is connecting some of Scotland’s most rural areas, making it one of the most ambitious and complex digital infrastructure programmes in Europe. The programme is delivering gigabit-capable broadband to ensure resilient, high-speed connections for years to come.
