Project Gigabit contracts

Project Gigabit is the UK government’s rollout of lightning-fast, reliable broadband across the UK. The programme targets homes and businesses that are not included in broadband companies’ commercial plans, reaching parts of the country not expected to receive gigabit speeds.

The Scottish Government will play a key role in delivering Project Gigabit contracts in Scotland, working closely with the UK Government to deploy funding committed to connect some of the hardest to reach geographies across the UK.

The contracts are categorised under local (Type A), regional (Type B) and cross regional (Type C).

The Scottish Government is the contracting authority for local (Type A) and regional (Type B) Project Gigabit contracts in Scotland.

Details of live contracts are below and will be updated as they continue to be awarded.

Borders and East Lothian

Following a transparent, fair and robust procurement process, the Scottish Government awarded supplier GoFibre a £26 million contract to provide gigabit-capable broadband to thousands of hard-to-reach premises in the Borders and East Lothian.

GoFibre will now undertake a survey of the area to establish exactly which premises are to benefit from contract build, following which our address checker will be updated to reflect this.

Once build to their premises is complete, residents and businesses can then benefit from faster speeds by ordering an appropriate service from an internet service provider (ISP).

Below is a map of the initial premises which have been identified as part of the contract showing how many premises are in scope per broadband exchange.
