Enhancing daily life in Peterhead with superfast broadband

Ben Youngson, a resident of Peterhead in Aberdeenshire, struggled with a slow broadband connection, which regularly gave him speeds averaging 5-8 Megabits per second (Mbps). This limited his family's everyday activities such as streaming TV, accessing information online and playing video games.

Recognising the need for a better solution, Ben applied for the R100 Scottish Broadband Voucher Scheme (SBVS) via registered supplier Scot-tel-Gould. Following the installation of a Fixed Wireless service he can now access superfast broadband with speeds reaching over 60 Mbps.

This connection has significantly enhanced their internet’s reliability:

  • Enhanced entertainment: "We can now watch online TV, surf the internet and the children can play video games," Ben said.
  • Efficient work and studying from home: "I can now work from home when I want and my kids' school chores are now easy to upload and download," Ben explains. The ability to work remotely with reliable internet has greatly benefited Ben's professional life and his children's education.
  • Improved communication with friends and family: The upgrade has made video calls smooth and uninterrupted, enhancing communication with loved ones.
  • Convenient online shopping: "Online shopping and food ordering are now very easy," Ben notes.
  • Reduced need for travel: The ability to work from home and attend online appointments has reduced the need for travel, saving time and resources.

Ben highly recommends superfast broadband to others, especially those living in the countryside, and truly appreciates the positive impact made by the R100 SBVS to his everyday life: “I’m very grateful for the help provided by the R100 SBVS, which has allowed me to install superfast broadband at home."
